Gift Options We Support

We’ll help you choose the right fit based on goals like income, taxes, timing, and leaving a legacy. Common options include:

Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA)

What it is: You make a gift and receive fixed payments for life.
Good for: Donors who want a lifetime income at a predictable rate, plus an upfront charitable deduction.
Typical benefits: Partially tax‑free payments; rates generally increase with age.

Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT)

What it is: You transfer assets to a trust, you or your beneficiaries receive income for life or a term of years, and the remaining assets go to charity.
Good for: Highly appreciated assets; diversifying without immediate capital gains tax; creating income.
Typical benefits: Charitable tax deduction; potential capital gains mitigation; flexible payout structures.

Charitable Lead Trust (CLT)

What it is: A trust pays charity for a term of years; the remainder returns to the donor or passes to family.
Good for: Estate/transfer planning while supporting charity now.
Typical benefits: Potential estate, gift, and income tax advantages; significant charitable support during the trust term.

Wills and Beneficiary Designations

What it is: A gift through your will, trust, retirement account, or life insurance.
Good for: Simple, flexible legacy plans you can update any time.
Typical benefits: Estate tax advantages; no impact on cash flow today.

IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs)

What it is: Direct gifts from your IRA (if eligible by age) to satisfy required minimum distributions.
Good for: Reducing taxable income while supporting charity.
Typical benefits: Counts toward required minimum distributions from retirement accounts and is generally excluded from taxable income.

Donor‑Advised Funds (DAFs)

What it is: A charitable account you contribute to now and recommend grants from over time.
Good for: Simplicity and flexibility when timing a deduction and giving strategically.
Typical benefits: Immediate charitable tax deduction; easy ongoing grantmaking.

Montana Endowment Tax Credit

What it is: A credit against Montana state income tax liability for planned gifts to a permanent endowment of a Montana charity.
Good for: Montanans seeking a powerful credit against state taxes while building long‑term impact.
Typical benefits: A credit (not just a deduction) that can significantly reduce Montana taxes.

Life Estates

What it is: You give your home, farm, or ranch to charity now, while keeping the right to live in and use it for the rest of your life.
Good for: Donors with appreciated real estate who want to stay in their home and also make a meaningful gift.
Typical benefits: Immediate income tax deduction, potential reduction of future estate and probate costs, and continued use of the property for life.
