Montana Scholarships for Teens Through Yellowstone Foundation

Are you a Montana high school senior or Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch alumnus planning for college or vocational school? Explore these scholarship opportunities offered by the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch Foundation, designed to help students from all backgrounds achieve their academic goals.


Johnson Scholarship (McCone County)

Amount: $500 – $5,000 per year
Eligible Students: Graduates of Circle High School or nearby McCone County public schools

This scholarship was established by Melvin and Kathryn Johnson to support motivated Montana students who show strong character, academic performance (minimum 3.0 GPA), and commitment to their education. Recipients may attend any accredited 2-year, 4-year, or vocational school, and scholarships can be awarded for up to 4 years.

Doney Alumni Scholarship Program – MSU Bozeman

Funded by: The Earl & Fay Doney Endowment
Eligible Programs:

  • Elementary Education
  • Early Childhood Development / Education
  • Counseling
  • Electrical Engineering

This scholarship supports Montana students pursuing degrees at Montana State University – Bozeman, with preference given to Yellowstone Academy alumni. Scholarships are renewable based on academic progress.

Yellowstone Alumni Scholarship Program

Eligible Students: Former residents or students of Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch / Yellowstone Academy

This scholarship is funded by multiple generous donors, including Kenneth C. Carpenter, Helen Doornbos Hull, Carrol V. Lipp, Lauren P. Miller, and Charles & Edith Blackstone. It supports alumni pursuing degrees or vocational certificates, especially those interested in education, medicine, or Christian service.

Application Requirements:

  • Official transcripts or GED
  • One letter of recommendation
  • 500-word essay on career goals

Students are encouraged to apply by July 1 each year. Scholarships are awarded on a rolling basis if funds remain.
