Shy to Shining at Walmart!

June 23, 2025

When Dariann joined the YBGR Supported Employment Program, she was shy and unsure, struggling with social interaction due to being on the autism spectrum. Years of being misunderstood had left her withdrawn—but with the support of her SEP coach, Erica, things started to change.
Together, they worked on building Dariann’s resume, interview skills, and most importantly, her confidence.
She landed a job at Walmart as a stocker and quickly proved herself. Not only did she succeed in her role, she began connecting with customers and co-workers—and was soon promoted to personal shopper!
Recently, Dariann told Erica, “I have to make a conscious effort to focus on my job instead of visiting with customers and co-workers!”
What a transformation! With the right support, Dariann found her voice—and her place.
