Sensory Motor Arousal Regulation Therapy (SMART)

Sensory Motor Arousal Regulation Treatment (SMART) is an innovative, evidence-informed therapy designed to support children and adolescents who have experienced complex trauma. The program helps youth develop emotional, behavioral, and interpersonal regulation by engaging the body as an essential part of the healing process. Through shared, play-based activities, SMART supports attachment-building and allows children to safely process traumatic experiences in a developmentally appropriate way. The model uses specialized therapeutic equipment, such as weighted blankets, balance beams, fitness balls, and large cushions, to help children regulate their bodies and emotions, expand their window of tolerance, and strengthen their capacity for healthy relationships and ongoing development.
