The Yellowstone Foundation’s Good Neighbor Grant Program reflects our commitment to strengthening the broader nonprofit community in the Billings, Montana region and beyond. We believe that when mission-aligned organizations thrive, the communities we all serve are stronger.
Through this annual grant program, the Yellowstone Foundation awards five fixed grants of $5,000 each to eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations whose work aligns with our mission and values.

Annual Application Cycle
Grant funds may be used for project support or general operating support. Funds must be used within 12 months of the award date.
The Yellowstone Foundation supports organizations whose work meaningfully connects to one or more of the following areas:
Residential treatment or therapeutic services for at-risk youth and young adults in crisis
Educational programming and academic support
Family reunification and community reintegration services
Vocational training and life-skills development
Complementary services such as foster care, adoption services, juvenile justice diversion, youth mental health counseling, family support services, or academic enrichment for underserved youth
Applicants do not need to replicate the exact programs of Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch. Organizations serving Montana are prioritized, but mission-aligned organizations elsewhere in the Mountain West may also be considered.
To be eligible, applicants must:
Be a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code
Be in good standing with the IRS and the state in which the organization is incorporated
Demonstrate mission alignment with the Yellowstone Foundation
Be able to use grant funds within 12 months of the award date
Not be a private individual, for-profit entity, or government agency
Applications open: September 1
Application deadline: October 15 by 5:00 PM MT
Review period: October 16 through November 15
Award notification: November 16
Grant disbursement: December 15
Final report due: June 1 of the following year

Please include the following documents with your completed application:
Eligible applications are reviewed by the Yellowstone Foundation’s Grant Review Committee. Applications are evaluated based on:
Mission alignment with the Yellowstone Foundation
Clarity and feasibility of the proposed use of funds
Demonstrated community impact
Organizational capacity and financial health
Geographic connection to the Greater Yellowstone region
The committee may seek clarification from applicants. Decisions of the Grant Review Committee are final.
Grant recipients are required to submit one brief final report by October 1 of the year following the award. The report should be no longer than one page and should summarize how funds were used, what outcomes resulted, and any challenges or unexpected developments.
Organizations that do not submit a final report will be ineligible to apply in the following grant cycle.
