Yellowstone Boys & Girls Ranch serves youth from across the United States who need specialized residential treatment and a healing, hands‑on environment. Families and agencies choose the ranch for whole‑person care: clinical therapy, education, life skills, and the restorative power of Montana’s setting, so kids can stabilize, heal, and return home stronger. One mission, many levels of care

The Continuum of Care

At YBGR, care is tailored to each child’s needs, offering a full continuum of support, from early intervention in the community and home, to Yellowstone Academy day treatment, to group homes and residential treatment. This approach helps children stabilize, heal, and thrive, moving seamlessly to the level of care that best supports their growth at the right time.

The Ranch
Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF)

Intensive, 24/7 therapeutic care on our ranch campus for youth in crisis who need the highest level of support. In Montana’s hands-on setting, with caring staff, evidence‑informed therapies, and a voluntary spiritual life program, kids stabilize, heal, and build skills for a safer return to family and community.

Therapeutic Group Homes

Small, structured, family‑like homes that help youth step down from higher levels of care and practice daily living skills. With consistent routines, counseling, and school support, kids gain stability and confidence on the path back to home and independence.

School District 58
Yellowstone Academy

A specialized public K-8 and private high school on the Ranch campus serving students from roughly a 60‑mile radius who are struggling in traditional classrooms. With individualized instruction, therapies, and wraparound supports, Yellowstone Academy helps about 170 students, including those in the PRTF, learn, grow, and succeed.

In Homes and Schools
Community-Based Services (CBS)

Critical support that keeps kids with their families and thriving in their own classrooms. CBS teams provide counseling, case management, skill building, and caregiver coaching across Montana so challenges are addressed early, often preventing the need for higher levels of care.

Spiritual Life Endowment

The Spiritual Life Endowment at Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch ensures that every youth in the PRTF receives care rooted in a holistic mind-body-spirit approach that supports lasting recovery. While therapeutic and physical wellness services are covered by Medicaid, private insurance, and Healthy Montana Kids, spiritual care is not, making donor support through the endowment essential.

The endowment sustains YBGR’s Spiritual Life Program, which offers weekly Chapel services, biweekly Young Life Club, summer and winter Young Life Camps, 30-day challenges, baptisms, and one-on-one counseling. During each activity, the Chaplain invites youth to share prayer requests, which are lifted up through the YBGR Prayer Chain, a network of churches offering support and prayers for youth and their families.

By giving to the endowment, donors help provide the spiritual foundation of healing while aligning their support with the faith-based values that guide whole-person care at YBGR.

Expanded Care
Across Montana

In 2024, Youth Dynamics, Inc. joined Yellowstone Boys & Girls Ranch, unifying services under one mission and name. This merger expanded YBGR’s reach across Montana, adding locations, teams, and programs so more kids can get help close to home. YDI no longer operates as a separate organization; all services are now part of YBGR, one coordinated continuum of care serving youth and families in communities statewide.

Other Organizations
We Support

The Foundation primarily grants to Yellowstone Boys & Girls Ranch, but we also provide funding to other charitable organizations each year. Uniquely, through our planned giving services, donors can designate gifts to multiple nonprofits in addition to the Foundation, at no upfront cost, so their generosity reaches farther. Today, donor-directed gifts extend our impact across Montana and nationwide.

Planned Giving
Margaret’s generosity and vision continue to inspire. At 80, she established a Charitable Remainder Trust to provide her daughter, Anna, with lifelong income while supporting the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch Foundation. Her commitment to giving didn’t stop there. She later created an additional trust, ensuring her home would one day benefit the Foundation after her passing. Anna, a compassionate nurse and caregiver, carries that same giving spirit forward. In 2014, she named YBGR Foundation in the beneficiary deed of her home. When not caring for others, Anna expresses her creativity by sewing colorful zipper coin purses, each one stitched with the same care and purpose that defines her life. Their family’s legacy continues to uplift Montana youth, one thoughtful act at a time.

For Tom and Carol, giving back has always gone hand in hand with living life to the fullest. Proud parents and grandparents, they’ve built a life centered on family, hard work, and community, while never losing sight of adventure. From carving through Montana’s snowy slopes to building a successful small business, Tom and Carol have lived with purpose and passion. After retirement, they turned their attention to philanthropy. In 2006, they made a meaningful gift to the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch Foundation, donating a portion of a property to establish a Charitable Remainder Trust. The trust provided them with reliable income during retirement while ensuring future support for youth served through YBGR programs. Their legacy reminds us that generosity, like adventure, has no age limit.
Tom & Carol
George and Marcey built a life of adventure, service, and heart. Lifelong educators, they shared a passion for learning and exploration, spending summers on RV trips across the country and winters under the Arizona sun. After George’s passing, Marcey continued to live their shared values with quiet strength. Wise, creative, and deeply generous, she invested her time and resources in causes that would uplift others for generations. Her deep belief in the mission of Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch Foundation led her to establish a Charitable Remainder Trust and multiple charitable gift annuities, each one a reflection of her faith in the lasting impact of care, compassion, and hope. Her legacy, shared with George, lives on through the many lives their generosity continues to touch.
