Free lodging helps remove barriers so families can take part in a child’s healing journey.
Family involvement can play a critical role in a young person’s treatment and long term success. At Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch, the Carl Orth Family Life Center and Guest House help make that involvement more accessible for families traveling to Billings.
One of the original buildings on the Ranch campus, the Carl Orth Family Life Center was once a machine shed. After many years and many different uses, Orth Lodge now provides free lodging for families visiting children who are receiving treatment at YBGR’s Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility.
For many families, especially those living outside the Billings area, lodging can be a significant barrier. The flyer notes that three out of four children in the PRTF come from families considered low income. Orth Lodge helps remove that barrier by offering five apartments, while the nearby three bedroom Guest House provides additional space for larger families.
These accommodations give families a safe and welcoming place to stay while participating in family therapy sessions and supporting their child’s treatment plan.
Family therapy has been part of the Ranch’s approach since its beginning in 1957. It helps caregivers better understand a child’s history, moods, and behaviors, while also learning how to support medication routines and respond during a crisis after discharge.
The ongoing maintenance and operation of the Carl Orth Family Life Center are made possible through generous donor support. Yellowstone Foundation is grateful for those who help ensure families can stay close, participate in treatment, and remain connected during an important season of healing.
