Through individualized education and hands on learning, students gain confidence, practical skills, and pathways toward success.
Yellowstone Academy provides educational programming for youth in residential care at Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch, as well as students in the Day School program who need a higher level of care and are bused in from surrounding communities.
The school works in collaboration with school districts to offer Individual Education Plan supported placement and credit recovery options, helping youth get back on track with their education.
Yellowstone Academy operates year round on a trimester academic calendar, providing a normalized school experience for students who may be struggling with emotional and behavioral challenges. Students are supported by a fully staffed administrative, teaching, and support team, including a superintendent, principal, school psychologist, and guidance counselor.
The public K through 8 school is fully accredited by the Montana Office of Public Instruction, and both the public K through 8 and private high school are fully accredited by AdvancED. Students who graduate from Yellowstone Academy receive a full high school diploma and may continue their education if they choose.
In addition to core subjects and electives, Yellowstone Academy offers real life skill development through the Vo Tech Program. Students can explore areas such as small engine repair, metals, woodworking and carpentry, horticulture, beekeeping, and aviculture through pheasants.
These opportunities help youth gain practical knowledge that can support future trade and career paths. Just as importantly, hands on learning helps students build self esteem, teamwork, responsibility, and confidence.
