The mission of YBGR Foundation is to support, promote, advance and enable charitable, religious, and educational programs benefiting youth and adults with special needs.
We champion the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch, providing critical care, treatment, and education since 1957.
We believe in accountability. That’s why we publish annual reports and detailed breakdowns of where every dollar goes.
From ranch beginnings to a statewide network of care, this timeline highlights the people, milestones, and community support that shaped our mission. See how programs expanded, partnerships deepened, and donor generosity fueled steady progress so more kids could heal, learn, and thrive.
Franklin Robbie and early leaders respond to the need for youth support services in Montana, purchase the O’Rourke Farm, and welcome the first child to what becomes Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch.
Foundational buildings such as Orth Lodge and the Donald Nutter Memorial Dining Hall are built, creating the first comprehensive home-and-healing environment for youth. The Ranch expands residential programming and welcomes girls by 1980.
YBGR Foundation is formed to secure the Ranch’s future, championing planned giving and endowment building.
Major early commitments, such as the Blankenship Trust, build a culture of long-term giving. Wes Robbie and Jim Soft expand donor engagement and Foundation visibility across Montana.
The Foundation continues strengthening youth programs and deepening its statewide impact through donor-supported projects, including continued enhancements to the Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility program in Billings.
With Youth Dynamics, Inc. joining YBGR in 2024, the organization nearly doubled in size, adding Therapeutic Group Homes in Billings, Boulder, Helena, and Great Falls, expanding the continuum of care across Montana. Today, nearly 400 planned gifts, including trusts, annuities, and bequests from caring families, continue to support capital improvements, youth programs, special projects, and long-term operational stability. YBGR/YDI services now reach 47 of Montana’s 56 counties, with offices in more than 20 communities.
Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch Foundation has been blessed with an incredible Board of Directors. Their zeal, commitment to, and untiring support for our mission through their prayers, gifts, guidance, and enlistment of others to facilitate Yellowstone’s success is unparalleled.
